Can someone close the curtains?
I wasn’t going to plop into bed when we got to the hotel at 2am. Sure, I.am.exhausted. But who wants to wake up smelling like over two days of travel? Technically, I did shower at JFK, but still, no thanks.
I prep for the next day (thanks, Mama, for teaching me right), shower, then melt into bed around 430. It was actually quite comfortable. Bed perfectly soft and firm, pillow wasn’t too fluffy… Blanket wasn’t irritatingly “stuck” (You know what I’m talking about).
I close my eyes and exhale, knowing I’d be in dreamland soon.
But the street lights were beaming into the room. And are there always vehicles passing by in the middle of the night? I wanted to shut the curtains but the bed and I are one. My roomie is fast asleep…guess it’s just me.
I look at our dimly lit room. Wow. Kenya. … Kenya! Have I prepped enough flowers and straws? What will I see? What’s the food like? Oh!, do I have enough chocolate macs? What will this trip hold for us? I wonder if we’ll see lions and cheetahs?
…and before I could ask more exciting questions, I open my eyes to see my first Kenyan sunrise. Two hours of restful sleep. I’m ready for Kenya.
Thank God we didn’t close the curtains.
