Our Story

After more than 20 years serving in nonprofit organizations in the field of early childhood development, Cultivate Overflow co-founder Cassia deeply believed in the mission of supporting young children, children with special needs, and their families. She loved the work and the people she served, and she carried a strong desire to make a difference.

But somewhere along the way, the passion that once fueled her slowly turned into exhaustion.

One day, she found herself standing in the middle of Walmart crying over a simple mistake that normally would not have mattered. The pressure had become too heavy. The constant demands, the emotional weight of serving others, and the feeling that the work was never enough had finally caught up with her.

Sometimes God plants a seed long before we realize what He’s growing…

In that moment, Cassia felt God whisper:
“Quit your job today.”

And she did.

Not because she stopped caring.
Not because the mission no longer mattered.
But because burnout had taken more from her than she realized.

As she began sharing her story, she discovered something heartbreaking: she was far from alone.

Again and again, she heard stories from nonprofit leaders, staff, volunteers, and caregivers who quietly carried the same exhaustion while continuing to pour into others every day. Stories of compassion fatigue, isolation, and feeling like they had nothing left to give. But also stories of resilience, healing, purpose, and hope.

We realized the greatest need wasn’t another program. It was caring for the people carrying the mission.

Today, Cassia has found renewed hope and purpose through helping others stay healthy, supported, and sustained in the work they feel called to do.

We realized Cassia’s experience wasn’t unique. Behind countless nonprofits, ministries, and community organizations are people quietly carrying more than most realize.

They love what they do.
They believe in the mission.

But too often, they do it while exhausted, isolated, and unsupported.

That’s why Cultivate Overflow exists.

But God wasn’t just writing one person’s story…

He was inviting others into it.

While God was preparing Cassia through one journey, He was preparing Melanie through another. Cassia had spent over twenty years in the working in non-profits in the field of early childhood development. Melanie loved working with children with special needs until an injury ended that chapter of her career.

Though their journeys were different, God was shaping them toward the same purpose.

Through their new career paths, they met at a business group. A friendship quickly formed and they discovered they shared the same heart for nonprofits, having experienced many of the same challenges from different perspectives.

Those conversations became ideas. Those ideas became prayers. And over time, those prayers became Cultivate Overflow.

We believe every person serving a mission deserves to be supported, encouraged, and reminded they don't have to carry it alone.
